What is Instructional Design/Documentation?

Instructional design is the systematic analysis, design, development , implementation, and evaluation of training. What does that mean to your organization? It means that CBIL can work with you to create an effective training program for your employees so that they can:

  • Acquire the required skills and knowledge, and…
  • Transfer the skills/knowledge to their jobs, which will ultimately….
  • Positively impact your organization’s bottom line.

A subset of instructional design includes documentation. Documentation is a wide field including diverse items such as writing operational procedures or manuals, FDA compliance recordkeeping, visual aids and archiving the skills and knowledge of soon-to-retire experts.

Why Invest in Instructional Design?

Organizations invest in CBIL’s instructional design services for three basic reasons:

  • Instructional design expertise is not available inside the organization.
  • The organization cannot develop the training in the timeframe required without outside help.
  • Off-the-shelf training doesn’t “fit” your organization’s needs

What can an Instructional Designer bring to the table?

  • A focus on the needs of the learners
  • Creativity in designing engaging learning experiences
  • A wide range of learning approaches to choose from
  • Experience in a wide variety of industries
  • Ability to develop a solution quickly, to meet your business demands

Why Invest in Documentation?

For FDA Regulated Organizations:

Use of a systematic approach to documentation standardizes and streamlines the process for creating procedures and visual aids, thus:

reducing costs

optimizing labor

improving quality of documents

improving FDA compliance

For Manufacturing & Technical Organizations:

Reduced staffing has left many companies short handed when it comes time to writing procedures, documenting new or complex machinery, or developing job aids to train workers. Simultaneously, a large “brain drain” is imminent as baby boomers with extensive expert knowledge start to retire, taking their knowledge with them. These companies typically benefit from:

Faster completion of new equipment start ups with up to 50% reduction in the time required for an operator to perform competently

Avoidance of expensive operator error on critical processes, with savings up to $500K or more

Compliance with federal or client requirements

Capture of essential expert knowledge that is irretrievable once lost
